A question to ponder
So I was watching VH1 Classic, and suddenly had one of those questions strike that just won't leave me alone.
Who was the ugliest rock band ever?
Because , you know, usually there is at least one cute one to save a band from complete shame. The Doors had Jim Morrison. The Cars had Benjamin Orr, God rest his soul. Henry Rollins isn't bad until you see all the tattoos.
System of a Down is certainly in the running. (I am also mad at them for using the phrase "most loneliest day" in a song, but that's another problem.) Canned Heat, from back in the day, also was pretty shudder-inspiring, but lots of people wore their hair like that then.
Let's try to limit this to bands with more than two members, which saves us all from the White Stripes.
So who comes to mind for you? inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, the Stones, hands down. Jagger and Richards are in a race to the death for Ugliest Man on the Planet.
Twisted Sister. Make-up on or make-up off, they were not attractive people.

I don't care what my cousin would say, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee are NOT hot.
I agree with denever... they were ugly 40+ years ago and they certainly did not get better with age. Love their music, though!!
The Scorpions and Judas Priest are my votes. Ronnie James Dio is also a pretty ugly dude.
The Ramones. I don't understand what Rif Randall saw in those guys.
And Steven Tyler? Not hot. Neither is Tom Petty. Good faces for radio.

I agree with Denever; there was nothing pretty about the Stones - ever. I shudder just to think of them.
Though technically not answers to your question, the list my friend and I came up with included Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bryan Adams and Iggy Pop. Bleh.
(just as an aside, my word verification combo was "pstohf" which I interpreted as "pissed off." It gave me a chuckle)

Ok, enough "male" bashing.....(duck and cover)....how about Patti Smith and Wendy-O-Williams ????? These rock-N-roll (chicks, girls, women, wemmen, females, gals.....) are not exactly your girl next door types....
One good thing about music, you don't have to see the preformers, just listen.

Now, Polski, since I asked for GROUPS, that pretty much makes it hard to do girls, since girl groups are usually chosen (partly) for their looks. Witness the Bangles, the Go-Go's, Antigone Rising-- and by saying that, I am in no way casting aspersions upon their talents as musicians, because I love all those bands. I am merely commenting upon the sexism of the music business, in which a GUY who is a howler can make it, but until very recently girls had to be babes.

But okay-- Hole, fronted by Courtney Love? Yikes! Lucinda Williams looks like she was rode hard and out up wet.
And, yes, I must also agree with the Stones. Shudder!!! Lou Reed is bad, but Iggy Pop is more frightening. Rick James IS a superfreak, but not in the way HE thinks.

I know this is late, but "most loneliest day," bad as it may seem, is positively Shakespearean.
I suppose to each his/her own. I happen to think that Tom Petty is a very attractive man (especially when he was 30-45ish).
I do too ! He was gorgeous - my husband could have been his identical twin and he was gorgeous as well. My husband died in 2012 and ever since then Tom has got old, and sort of Gray and scrawny. Not so hot now.
